The determination of police members to create a safer environment for all its inhabitants in the Western Cape resulted in the arrest of five suspects on charges of possession prohibited firearms and ammunition and the possession of abalone respectively.
On Friday 14 July 2023 police members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit followed up information relating to a serious and violent crime committed the previous day in Wesbank. The information led them to a dwelling in Kaberga Street where the members ensued with a search and recovered three homemade firearms and ammunition. A 19-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention Atlantis Crime Prevention Unit responded to information in the early hours of Saturday 15 July 2023. When they located the suspicious vehicle, they ordered the driver to stop. The driver of the vehicle however disobeyed the instruction which resulted in a high speed chase ending on the Old Dassenberg Road where the police officers searched the vehicle. The members found 649 units of abalone. They arrested and detained four suspects on a charge of possession of abalone.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Blue Down and Atlantis Magistrate court on the mentioned charges.
