A man was robbed of his firearm, car keys and wallet while attempting to deliver a calf in Cottonlands – KZN.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance. On arrival, it was established that a heard of cattle were grazing when a heavily pregnant cow went into labour.
The owner of the cow & his herdsman were assisting with the delivery when two men approached and offered to assist. The victim at some point felt uneasy and captured a photograph of the two men.
During the birthing process, the good samaritans produced a knife and a firearm. They instructed the victim to hand over his valuables. An altercation ensued when the victim fell, which resulted in his firearm being unholstered. One of the suspects grabbed his weapon and instructed him to comply with their instructions. They then stole his wallet and car keys before they fled into a sugar cane plantation.
The victim managed to flag down a passerby who offered to assist in the search for the robbers. At one point, they intercepted the suspects but were fired upon. They then contacted RUSA for assistance.
Reaction Officers surrounded the area and established that the men fled through the sugar cane plantation before entering a densely populated area.
Officers conducted an extensive search but the suspects are still at large.
