A 39-year-old suspect facing charges of kidnapping and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm will remain in custody after he was denied bail by the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court today, July 31. The cases were postponed to Thursday 03 August 2023.
The suspect, who cannot be named was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped and severely assaulted his 35-year-old wife in Litsetele policing area on Saturday 29 July 2023 at about 19:50.
This suspect attacked the victim at Mamitwa, who at the time was with her sister in law, walking home after attending an event
The suspect approached the two women driving at a high speed and even attempted to knock down his wife with the vehicle.
The suspect then aggressively ordered the victim to get in the vehicle and drove off to their home at Nwajaheni village.
Police were alerted about the incident and started with investigation and a search for both the victim and suspect. The suspect’s vehicle was spotted on the road and tactically stopped. Police then took the suspect to his house after he lied about his wife’s whereabouts.
During the investigation police found the victim’s blood stains clothes. While they were busy with the search, they received a report that the victim was at the local police station after she was rescued by a passer-by who found her in the bushes, naked and severely assaulted.
The motive is not yet known but could be domestic violence related.
Police investigations are still continuing.
