High density operations are currently underway in Cape Town where the Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele and the National Commissioner of SAPS, General Fannie Masemola will officially launch the Western Cape’s Operation Shanela. From this morning, the delegation led various high density operations in crime hot spot areas such as Maccasar, Belville and Manenberg.
To date, through Operation Shanela more than 70 000 suspects have been arrested for various crimes ranging from assault, rape and murder. In the Western Cape alone more than 19 000 suspects were arrested. Operation Shanela sees the Provincial Commissioners of each province lead and take part in roadblocks, cordon and searches as well as compliance inspections at liquor outlets and second-hand goods dealers.
