Crime Intelligence led operation led to the arrest of a suspect, firearm confiscated

A Crime intelligence driven operation with Dutywa Detectives yielded positive results when they arrested a 34-year-old male for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Mtintsilana Locality, Butterworth last night, 05 August 2023.

The arrest comes after a 17-year-old male was shot and killed last week at Dyosini area, Butterworth. Police investigated the case and followed up the information they received. Last night at about 23:00, they went to the home of the alleged suspect and recovered an unlicensed firearm (Norinco) and ammunition. The suspect was arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He will appear at Butterworth Magistrate Court tomorrow.

The Amathole District Commissioner Major General Ngangema Xakavu is thanking the community for sharing information that resulted to at least one firearm being recovered. “This sends a strong message to our citizens that Police will not rest until the perpetrator is facing the full might of the law,” he added.
