Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) dispatched to investigate an attempted suicide uncovered details of a sexual relationship between a minor female and a 30 year old businessman who sexually groomed her from the age of eleven (11).
The RUSA Operations Center received a call for assistance from an Off-Duty SAPS Reservist who provided an address (withheld to protect the identity of the victim) and stated that the teenager was in the process of attempting suicide. Reaction Officers & Paramedics immediately responded and arrived at the residence at 12:46 approx three (3) minutes off receiving the distress call. The emotional girl who is now 15 years old was discovered seated on the floor of her living room.
Her 67 year old father was present and explained that the child was ransacking the house in search of rat poison after her boyfriend declined to communicate with her from this morning (Tuesday). The elderly male further explained that his daughter was in a sexual relationship with a married businessman and father of three (3) children. The man operates a tuck shop at a secondary school in Verulam – KZN. The child attends the same school. Her father allegedly attempted to end the relationship but was assaulted by the man. He further advised Reaction Officers that he registered criminal cases but alleged that the suspect bribed Police Detectives and had the charges withdrawn. This could not be immediately verified.
A female RUSA Officer was requested at the scene to interview the teenager. During the interview, she confirmed she met the man while in grade seven (7) while attending a primary school in Verulam – KZN. He secured a place for her in the Secondary School where he operates a tuck shop. He also operates tuck-shops at two other primary schoold both located on the north coast. She added that he funded her transport to & from school. He also provided financial support for the family and purchased groceries etc. The man would arrive at her home and hand over cash to her father who would walk to a tavern approximately one (1) kilometre away to purchase alcohol. He would then have sexual intercourse with the girl. She alleged that the man is in sexual relationships with other minor females.
The victim showed the female RUSA Officer conversations between her and the Pedophile. On two occasions, he requested a videos of her masturbating. The girl complied and forwarded the material.
The teenager further alleged that she was touched inappropriately by her sister’s sixty (60) year boyfriend during an outing in 2019 but was reprimanded by her father who accused of lying when she informed him. The child attempted suicide approximately twenty times (20) thereafter. While Reaction Officers were attending to the current scene, the girl’s father negotiated payment of R1000 from the accused brother not to register a criminal case.
The South African Police Services (SAPS) was called to the scene and the victim was transported to the Police Station to register a criminal case. Further details of this case is being withheld to protect the identity of the child.
