Our efforts to decisively deal with the crime of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition proved successful when police members of Harare SAPS and K9 Western Cape arrested a total of five suspects in separate incidents.
Harare police members were busy with patrols on Thursday 10 August 2023 when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with three occupants roaming the area. The members called for backup and stopped the vehicle near to Dike Street in Makhaza. They searched the occupants and confiscated two 9mm pistols and arrested the three males on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
Meanwhile police members attached to K9 Western Cape pursued information in the early hours of Friday 11 August 2023. They operationalised the information and drove to a premises in Hendrik Potgieter Street in Parowvalley. The police members surprised the residents and conducted an intense search, confiscating two 9mm pistols with ammunition. They arrested and detained two males on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Bellville Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
