A suspected arsonist was arrested in Smithfield after a classrooms from the local school and other private premises were broken into and burnt.
Smithfield police investigated 4 cases with the same modus operandi after classerooms from the High School in the area were burnt. Intelligence information led investigators to a house in Smithfield where the suspect was residing. On arrival, members found stolen school uniforms and stolen items from four other places as reported by the owners.
The 21-year-old Tshidiso Modise appeared in the Smithfield Magistrate court on Thursday, 10 August 2023 for possession of suspected stolen property, arson as well as housebreaking and theft amongst others.
He was remanded in custody and will appear again on the 16 August 2023 for formal bail application.
