Members of Maitland Flying Squad conducted crime prevention patrols in Durbanville area when they received information about a suspicious looking Renault Kwid roaming the Central Business District area in Durbanville. The vehicle was spotted with four occupants, pulled over and searched. Upon searching the vehicle the members found two firearms with serial numbers removed and 17 rounds of ammunition. A further search lead to the discovery of three mandrax tablets.
The four suspects, aged between 29 and 36, were arrested and detained at Durbanville SAPS on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition and possession of drugs. The suspects will appear in Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 August 2023 on the mentioned charges.
This morning members of the Maitland Flying Squad followed up information about a vehicle which was reported as stolen in Marikana area. The area were searched and members identified two premises situated in an informal settlement where multiple vehicle body parts as well as engines were found. On further inspections two engines were identified as stolen in Mfuleni and Samora Machel. These engines as well as the vehicle body parts of a red Hyundai I10 and blue Toyota Yaris were confiscated and handed in at Bellville South vehicle storage facility. No arrests were made yet. Investigations continues.
