Partnership policing proved to be successful when police officers in the Cape Winelands District arrested and detained four suspects when they were found in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and presumed stolen property in isolated incidents on Monday, 28 August 2023.
Police members attached to the Economic Infrastructure Task Team led an integrated law enforcement team, when they responded to information about a vehicle carrying presumed stolen property leaving Paarl East. The members located the vehicle and stayed in close proximity. They stopped the vehicle on the N1 Highway where they found a huge load of scrap metal and cables. The driver and his assistant could not prove beyond reasonable doubt the reason for them being in possession of the load of scrap. They arrested and detained the two suspects on a charge of possession of presumed stolen property.
In an unrelated incident Tulbagh police responded to a complaint of two unknown armed males who entered a shack in the informal settlement Blikkiesdorp in Gouda. Upon arrival at the shack they entered with force and noticed one male with a firearm in his hand. A scuffle ensued and the police members seized a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested and detained two males aged 31 and 34 on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Paarl and Wolseley Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
