Two suspects arrested for dealing in drugs and possession of a firearm

The determination of members attached to Operation Restore to rid our communities of drugs, yielded positive results when two male suspects aged 31 and 41 were arrested for dealing in drugs in Thamsanqa Rhubisana Street, Samora Machel on Monday night.

Members of Operation Restore followed up on information about a premises where drugs are being stored and sold in Thamsanqa Rhubisana Streets, Samora Machel. On their arrival, the members ensued with a search of the premises and found a consignment of drugs consisting of 65 full mandrax tablets and 65 crystal meth (Tik) as well as an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of drugs. They will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court once charged.

In an unrelated matter, on Monday, 11 September 2023 at about 08:20 members of Kleinmond SAPS received information about an illegal firearm and ammunition at a premises in 11th Avenue Kleinmond. A 33-year-old suspect was apprehended for being in possession of a firearm and 17 rounds of ammunition which was confiscated. He was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Caledon Magistrates court on Wednesday 13 September 2023on the mentioned charges.

Upon further investigation it was established that the suspect bought the firearm from the wife of a deceased firearm licensed holder. A case was opened against her in terms of the firearm control Act no 60 of 2000 sect 120 (10) (a), sell, supply or in any other manner give possession of a firearm or ammunition to a person who is not allowed in terms of this Act to possess that firearm or ammunition. This case will be brought under the attention of the Senior State Prosecutor for decision.

Last night 11 September 2023 at 21:05 members of a film crew was robbed at Lower Main Road, Observatory. Cellular telephones and camera equipment was taken from the staff. Woodstock police and a private security company were alerted and responded to the complaint.

The cellular telephones were tracked to Delft at a petrol service station whereby two males’ suspects aged 33 and 34 were arrested in a getaway vehicle. All the stolen cellular telephones were recovered in the vehicle and handed over to the lawful owners at SAPS Woodstock.
