SAPS Medic Warrant Officer saves a life after a man was electrocuted by a microwave oven at his house.
Tuesday, 11 September 2023 at about 12:10. Mangaung 10111 call centre received a distress call from a female alleging that her husband has been electrocuted while testing the microwave oven at home. The caller was desperately requesting 10111 to quickly send an ambulance in Wilgehof.
The 10111 call taker managed to obtain the address and phone number before the phone went dead. In the meantime an ambulance was already called by her colleague in the centre and summoned to the scene.
The complainant was called back immediately and a trained SAPS Medic in the call centre, Warrant Officer Johan Maloney took over the call guiding the caller step by step on how to perform CPR. He kept on encouraging and guiding her through the process until the ambulance arrived.
Through the SAPS medic, the husband positively responded and started breathing. The Emergency Medical Services Personnel members stabilised the male at the scene before taking him away in a stable condition to hospital.
The complainant was called back later to ascertain the condition of her husband and was very thankful for the assistance she received over the phone from the SAPS members at the Mangaung 10111 call centre. Her husband is recovering in Hospital.
Free State Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane lauded the members working in the Mangaung 10111 Call Centre and the Warrant Officer who upon hearing that his experience was needed never hesitated and saved a life. “Such dedication is needed to serve our communities” said the General.
