The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Officers and other Law Enforcement Agencies, noticed that street robbers are on the rise, especially in Thembisa area and the targeted, are the most vulnerable while on their way to work where the risk of harm, is very high.
Currently, Law Enforcers identified hotspots within Thembisa where most of these malicious robbers, are reported. They are Tlatlama extension, Maokeng, Leboeng, Teanong and other adjacent sections. It is understood that perpetrators pick their vulnerable targets and quick escape routes, robbing them items such as smart phones, laptops, cash and most of these robbers are usually armed.
Members of the community are advised to walk in groups when commuting for work or school in the mornings or evenings. Power outages have also contributed to the increase of robberies. It is advisable that people remain indoors during loadshedding and avoid walking in the streets, with their electronic devices.
The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) urges Thembisa residents and neighbouring community members, to actively participate in crime prevention, by reporting suspicious activities and taking steps, to deter opportunistic criminals. Crime prevention is a collective effort.
A stern warning, to the perpetrators terrorising the vulnerable that, they will face the consequences should they be caught and police visibility, will be conducted to ensure the safety of residents and fight crime.
