Counterfeit team raid shops, recover counterfeit goods and contraband

Relentless efforts by Gauteng’s Provincial Team on Counterfeit goods and contraband have, in less than five days, led to the recovery of such items to the tune of more than R5 million.

During this morning’s raid in Johannesburg Central Business district, the team recovered and confiscated items valued at R2,3 million rand. The items in question are consumables such as sanitory pads, counterfeit shaving blades, anti-impotent pills, counterfeit shoe polish, hair extensions, knives, toothbrushes, jewellery, leather belts and caps. These were found in large quantities at two malls in the CBD.

The team, which comprised of members from Visible Policing, Traffic Saturation Team, Crime Prevention Wardens, Brand protectors and the South African Revenue Service’s Customs Unit will continue to apply and execute search warrants to raid counterfeit goods dealers in order to combat this illicit trade.
