SAPS members’ continuous high visibility in crime prevention have dealt a blow to criminals over the long weekend during Operation ‘Vuthu Hawe’ in the Joe Gqabi District.
The operational activities included roadblocks on the R58 on the Venterstad side, R392 Thaba Lesoba Village in Sterkspruit, R56 at KatKop and N6 in Jamestown. High visibility patrols concentrated in hotspot areas, stop and search for drugs and dangerous weapons and visits to liquor outlets for compliance.
The following successes were achieved:
*Vehicles Searched -204
*28 traffic fines issued to the value of R26 400-00.
SAPS members also assisted with a helping hand to a tourist whose vehicle had broken down as well as guided him towards the correct direction for his destination.
In Burgersdorp, a 55-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen meat after meat was found in his house on a farm.
SAPS Steynsburg, a suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after the community provided positive information.
SAPS Katkop detectives also followed up on positive information and managed to link and arrest three suspects aged 28, 38 and 54 to a murder case. A 9mm firearm and ammunition were confiscated.
SAPS Aliwal North’s attentiveness and swift reaction made the recovery of a stolen vehicle possible. A suspect was arrested and a Nissan NP 200 allegedly stolen from Witbank was recovered.
The Acting Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Brig Asogran Naidoo commended the members on the successful arrests and confiscations. He thanked the community for the positive information that will contribute in keeping firearms off the streets and stop criminals in their tracks in the small rural towns.
