An anonymous tip-off led to the arrest of a wanted Murder suspect in Tongaat – Kwazulu Natal a short while ago (Tuesday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre received an anonymous tip-off that a man sought for the murder of a Zimbabwean work colleague was walking on Walter Reid Road. The caller provided a detailed clothing description of the accused & was convinced that the man was on the run from Law Enforcement.
Reaction Officers were immediately mobilised and the Operations Center provided updated movement reports on the suspect. Officers converged at the location and rapidly apprehended the wanted male without incident at approximately 15:01. A shortened spear believed to be the murder weapon was recovered in his possession.
During an interview with Reaction Officers, the 35-year-old confirmed that he stabbed his colleague during an argument at a tyre fitment centre in the Tongaat CBD – KZN on Thursday (21/09/2023). He alleged that the deceased ridiculed him on several occasions at work. He further alleged that on the day of the murder, the deceased consumed his lunch, which resulted in the altercation. The accused previously served a six (6) months sentence in Westville Prison for attempted murder. The remainder of his sentence was suspended for five (5) years.
He was placed under arrest and detained at the SAPS Tongaat.
