Police detain suspect for possession of drugs, unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as the possession of presumed stolen property

Police members deployed in the Western Cape to address major crime contributors, continue to detain suspects in possession of drugs, unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as the possession of presumed stolen property on Tuesday, 26 September 2023.

Police members of Operation Restore deployed in the area bordering the Northern Cape conducted stop and search operations in the vicinity of the Klawer weighbridge on the N7 Highway. At about 21:00, they stopped a Toyota Fortuner and ensued with the search of the occupant and the motor vehicle which resulted in the discovery and subsequent confiscation of a 12 gauge shotgun with ammunition. The driver of the motor vehicle was unable to provide a permit to be in possession of the shotgun. The 31-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated intervention, West Coast Rural Flying Squad led an integrated operation pursuing information of the alleged transportation of drugs in their policing precinct. The police members operationalised the information and deployed their resources en-route to Saldanha Bay. They spotted the suspicious motor vehicle, stopped it and commenced with a search of the motor vehicle and the occupants. They arrested two males aged 35 and 38 who were found in possession of cocaine with an estimated street value of R13 000. They face charges of possession of drugs.

Meanwhile Police members attached to the Western Cape Flying Squad were busy with patrols in Belhar when they spotted a suspicious motor vehicle suspected to be involved in several house breaking incidents in the area. The members gave chase, stopped the vehicle and conducted an intense search during which they confiscated 2 flat screen television sets, two laptops, one tablet, one microwave, and a consignment of jewellery. They arrested and detained two suspects aged 35 and 46 on a charge of possession of presumed stolen property.

The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in Klawer, Vredenburg and Bellville Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges, once charged.
