On Wednesday 27 September 2023, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Alberton Precinct Officers, conducted a public transport operation, on Elandsfontein road plus, on Heidelburg road, in the Alberton central business district (CBD).
The aim of the operation, is to ensure that motor-vehicles in the public transport sector, complies with the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996) and are deemed safe, for commuters to use.
During the exercise, fifty (50) motor vehicles were stopped and searched where seventy-nine (79) written notices for various transgressions, were issued to motorists, who were not complying and adhering, to the stipulated rules of the road and, with the law.
This is an ongoing action, within the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) and the EMPD Officers, will ensure that our roads, are safe and free from accidents/crashes, especially now that we are approaching the festive season.
