A 23-year-old Congolese woman and her three (3) month old son were kidnapped from their home in Hazelmere – KZN last night (Tuesday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from a resident in the area requesting assistance for the victims. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene at appropriate 20:42.
The victim explained that she was at her residence with her child when six (6) males and one (1) female kidnapped them from her home. They forced her to walk to a nearby abandoned home where they threatened to rape her. Some of the suspects removed the child to another room while their accomplices remained with the woman. They fled after an approaching mini bus taxi sounded their horn. The female grabbed her child and fled to a nearby residence for assistance.
The woman believes that one of the suspects was also present during a home invasion at her residence in June 2023. During the robbery, she was handed a letter by the suspects which stated they were hired to kill her and that she should leave the area.
She could not confirm if she was being targeted because of her nationality.
