Arrests made of armed suspects who have been terrorizing motorists at the intersections of John Voster Drive

Lyttelton Police have arrested two suspects in possession of firearms who have been terrorizing the intersections of John Voster Drive.

In the early hours of Friday morning members the under-cover unit were deployed to the area and began their duties.

As they approached Olivenhoutbosch and John Voster drive, they noticed an African male who was busy knocking on a vehicle window. The members had also spotted his partner in crime and were ready to act.

The suspects spotted the members and began to run towards the bushes on the side of the road throwing the firearm down as they did. The members sprung into action and began to chase both suspects, despite the suspects’ attempt to evade arrest the members were too quick and had them on the ground and handcuffed.

The suspects’ method of operating is that they knock on the window of an unsuspecting victim and when the window is lowered they produce a firearm and rob the victim of their belongings.

This operation has been ongoing for the past two months and has seen countless man-hours from all law enforcement officials, and the private security sector.

The suspects will face charges of attempted armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, and resisting arrest.
