Dedicated and disciplined police members, committed to their mandate, pursued information on Monday, 23 October 2023, and detained two males on charges of possession of prohibited firearms, ammunition and drugs and another male on a charge of murder.
Police members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit, deployed in Kleinvlei policing precinct to combat the ongoing gang violence in the area, conducted an intense search at a premises In Hakea Street. Upon entering the mentioned premises they discovered a 9mm pistol with serial number removed, hidden underneath a cupboard in the bedroom and arrested and detained a 26-year-old man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention the convoy proceeded to an address in Keerom Street. The members entered the house and searched the occupants. They confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition and a consignment of drugs and arrested and detained a 30-year-old man on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.
Meanwhile a group of known gang members were removed from the street for the purpose of profiling. The process proved to be successful as they arrested and detained a 31 year old male on a charge of murder, which occurred near to the corners of Apollo and Raymond Ackerman Street in Somerset Heights on Saturday, 21 October 2023.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Blue Downs Magistrate Court on the mentioned charges.
