The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola embraced the arrest of three copper thieves and the recovery of stolen copper worth approximately R300 000-00 in Hopetown.
Policing crimes relating to the damage of essential infrastructure remains a priority in the province.
The suspects allegedly stole the copper from an irrigation pump on a farm near Hopetown over the past three days.
On Thursday, 09 November 2023 at about 04:00 surveillance cameras detected the suspects on the scene.
Hopetown police, with the assistance of the farm owner and Oranje Security pounced on the suspects while driving off in a getaway vehicle on the R359 road near Hopetown.
Police confiscated the burnt copper cables and the white Renault Cleo as it was allegedly used in the commission of crime.
The three suspects, aged 31, 41 and 44 years old respectively were arrested and charged with theft of copper cables and tampering or damaging of essential infrastructure.
The District Commissioner for Pixley Ka Seme, Major General Nomana Mtukushe commended the Hopetown SAPS and the community for a perfect display of partnership policing.
