The trade of counterfeit goods is unlawful and has a detrimental impact on the economic growth of the country. Law enforcement agencies in Gauteng continue to destabilize the market of illicit trade of counterfeit goods.
On 14 November 2023, a team of members from Gauteng Commercial Crime, Visible Policing, Saturation Unit from Department of Traffic, Customs, Crime Prevention Wardens and Brand Protectors conducted an operation at Fordsburg in Johannesburg focusing on counterfeit goods. Ten search and seizures were executed leading to the arrests of four suspects for illicit trade of counterfeit goods and one undocumented person.
