Police members in the Western Cape continue to detain suspects on charges of possession of prohibited firearms, ammunition and abalone
The swift response of Harare Crime Prevention Unit resulted in the arrest of a suspect on Thursday, 16 November 2023. The members were conducting visible patrols in the area when they saw two males who became restless when they saw the patrol vehicle near to Block 20 in Mandela Park at around 20:30. The duo started to run and the police members gave chase. They detained a 34-year-old man who was found in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention, police members of Public Order Police were busy with Crime Prevention Duties in Kraaifontein on Friday, 17 November 2023, when they responded to information of suspects robbing people in the area. The members proceeded to Old Paarl Road where they detained an adult male on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile, police members of Operation Shanela staged an intelligence driven operation in Brackenfell on Friday, 17 November 2023. The platoon approached an address in Kruin Street, Brackenfell, where they searched the property and confiscated 446 units of dried abalone. They arrested and detained a 52-year-old man on a charge of possession of abalone.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Blue Downs Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges
