Search for abandoned newborn baby in Verulam

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) is currently searching the Waterloo area in Verulam – Kwazulu Natal for a dumped newborn baby.

At approx 12:06 (Tuesday) the RUSA Operations Center received a call from a female reporting an abandoned baby in a bush near Erika Road in Waterloo. The woman then terminated the call. She then called a second time and provided a vague location. She further provided a contact number on request of the Controller on Duty.

When Reaction Officers got to the location, the baby could not be located. The contact details, name and address provided were fictitious. Seen in this video are Reaction Officers attempting to locate the baby.

When the Controller retrieved the telephone records, it was established that the female had called from an unknown number at 12:06 and 12:09. When Reaction Officer listened in on the audio telephone recording, it could not be established if the caller herself had abandoned the baby.

The search continues (Tuesday 19/12/2023 – 12:42).
