On Friday 5 January 2024 at 04:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department ( EMPD) Tactical Response Unit ( TRU) Officers, arrested five ( 5) male suspects and unlicensed firearms, were confiscated.
Following on information from a reliable source, about a group of vigilantes, who were seen in the area brandishing firearms and shooting randomly, a shack, at the Joe Slovo informal settlement, was raided. Officers uncovered three (3) different kinds of 9mm pistols, a Taurus revolver, an explosive (normally used by criminals to bomb an ATM)
and sixteen (16) live rounds, before five (5) occupants, who are between the ages of 21 and 37, were handcuffed. All the serial numbers on the unregistered firearms, were tempered with.
The foursome, facing charges of ‘possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition’ were taken to the Reiger park police station. They are expected to appear, at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
