Determined to rid their communities of prohibited and unlicensed firearms and ammunition, committed police officers detained 13 suspects on charges of possession of prohibited and unlicensed firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents on Sunday 28 January 2024.
Malmesbury police members responded to a complaint of a shooting incident near to a block of flats in Wesbank. Upon their arrival at the scene the community members informed them that the unknown suspects fled down the road. The police members gave chase in the direction of Basilie Street and apprehended three males, searched and confiscated a firearm with ammunition. They arrested three males between the ages of 16 and 17 on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention Table View police members were busy with patrols near to a local shopping complex at around 20:00. They approached a vehicle and searched the unruly occupants. Their persistence were rewarded when they discovered a firearm with ammunition hidden beside the driver’s seat. They detained the ten males on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Malmesbury and Cape Town Magistrate’s courts on the mentioned charges.
