Success isn’t always about greatness, it is about consistency. Consistent hard work gains success and greatness will come. SAS SALDANHA is known to be a place where the best trains the rest in the SA Navy. The unit has received 377 recruits to be undergoing training over the period January to September 2024.
The first 3 weeks of the recruit’s arrival at SAS SALDANHA was dedicated to Director Defence Human Resource Acquisition for the facilitation of administration before the commencement of the course. The recruits were officially handed over to the Officer Commanding SAS SALDANHA, Captain (SA Navy) B.E. Madonsela on Friday, 26 January 2024 for Basic Military Training. In her address to the recruits Captain Madonsela, mentioned that each one sitting here chose this unique path of serving the country, and in making that choice, it requires discipline and dedication.
The Basic Military Training course at SAS SALDANHA will be facilitated under the charge of Training Commander, Commander T.J. Kolobe and Course Officer for Military Training for Ratings Part 1 (MTR 1), Lieutenant Commander J.
Sebothoma.
Basic Military Training is crucial for several reasons. It instils discipline, fosters teamwork, and ensures that sailors acquire essential skills to operate effectively in a naval environment. Additionally, it provides a foundation for understanding naval traditions, protocols, and the chain of command, contributing to the overall readiness and effectiveness of navy personnel.
Some of modules covered during Basic Military Training include Nuclear Biological and Chemical Defence, Sea Survival, Musketry and Military First Aid amongst others.
