The vigilance and dedication of members of Germiston Flying Squad Unit led to the recovery of explosives, a rifle and ammunition.
On 02 February 2024, the members were conducting crime prevention duties when they spotted a grey Mercedes Benz driving along R554 in Elsburg.
When police stopped the vehicle, it increased speed and a chase ensued up until Buhle Park where the suspects’ vehicle was halted by a boom gate. The suspects were found in possession of a rifle with a filled off serial number, 31 rounds of live ammunition and explosive devices which are suspected to be used for ATM bombings.
Upon further investigations it was established that the vehicle used was stolen and fitted with false registration numbers.
Both suspects aged 30 and 45 were arrested and are expected to appear before Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on 05 February 2024.
