The Police Detectives in Dennilton are investigating cases of murder and business robbery that occurred between Mpheleng main road and Ga-Matlala Lehwelere in Dennilton policing area.
According to information, the Police were summoned to shooting scene, wherein a poultry farm owner, aged 54, was shot and killed on Friday 09 February 2024 at about 20:00.
Allegedly, the victim was chased by suspect(s) when he was shot, trying to seek help from one of the motorists. The said motorist alleges that the victim stopped him along Mpheleng main road. Just after he stopped, he heard gunshot towards their direction. He immediately drove off and left the victim. He then contacted the police.
Police responded swiftly to the incident. Upon arrival with Emergency Medical Services, they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds. He was certified dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations lead the Police to a nearby poultry farm, where it was established that the deceased was the owner of the said farm.
The caregiver of the farm alleges that two suspects armed with firearms intruded into the farm and demanded money. After a short space of time, the owner of the farm arrived driving in a white NP200 Nissan without noticing any suspicious activity. Immediately when he alighted from his vehicle, he was accosted by a suspect at gunpoint. They robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money. The victim ran on foot towards the main road, one of the suspects chased him, and the other one remained at the poultry farm. He went to the vehicle and searched it before fleeing on foot.
Police opened cases of murder and business robbery. The deceased was later identified as Hemmilton Khambana (54).
