Exotic animals rescued in Benoni

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers in conjunction with the Environmental Health Department, Benoni Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), community policing forum (CPF) members attended to a complaint involving various exotic animals, in the Benoni area.

The EMPD officers received a complaint about animal noises that disturb the public peace on Poplar Road, and worked together with other stakeholders, to attend to the complaint. On arrival at the said address, the law enforcers found various exotic animals, ranging from black-eared marmosets, wolves, monkeys, and fennec foxes.

The SPCA issued a notice to the owner due to the wolves appearing to be underweight and their poor living conditions.

The Environmental Health Department also issued a notification letter to request for a decrease in the nuisance caused by the animals.

Furthermore, at Harry Gwala, Putfontein and Elim Roads the officers conducted law enforcement and written notices to appear in court were issued to drivers who did not comply with the National Road Traffic Act.

The EMPD would like to urge the City of Ekurhuleni community members to follow proper procedures with all stakeholders when it comes to keeping animals in the residential areas.
