Flying squad clamps down on crime

Continued endeavours to rid the Western Cape from the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking proved to be successful when yet another excellent arrests was made and a substantial quantity of drugs seized..

Yesterday Thursday, 22 February 2024, members attached to the Winelands District Flying Squad acted on information received and upon spotted the vehicle they flagged it down but the driver sped away. A high speed chase ensued on the N-1 towards Paarl. The driver lost control of the vehicle during the chase and crashed the car in a ditch on the side of the road as he attempted to make a U-turn.

The driver started to run after he got out of the car but was chased down and apprehended. Upon searching him, the members found 1.2kg of tik with an estimated street value of R440 000 in his possession. The 31 years old suspect will appear in the Paarl Magistrates’ court for dealing in tik once charge.

Meantime members of Maitland Flying Squad were responding to a complaint where security officials at a Milnerton shopping centre were observing suspects who were busy breaking into a BMW. The members caught the three suspects and when searched, found a jamming device on one of them. The suspects were travelling in a red Hyundai i10 with false registration numbers. It was also established that these suspects can possibly be linked to a Rondebosch robbery case which was reported earlier.

The suspects, aged between 28 and 31 were detained at Milnerton SAPS on a case of possession of jamming device and driving with false registration plates. The suspects will appear in Cape Town Magistrates’ court on Monday, 26 February 2024.
