The South African Police Service has initiated an extensive manhunt led by the Provincial Taxi Violence unit following a tragic murder at R25 Phooko village in the Dennilton policing area on Friday, March 1st, 2024, at about 22:20.
The Dennilton Police swiftly responded to reports of a shooting incident at the R25. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a male victim with gunshot wounds seated in a white Suzuki vehicle with its doors open. Emergency Medical Services were promptly contacted to provide assistance.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the victim, identified as Andile Brian Khubeka (33), was the driver of the white Suzuki and was accompanied by two other men when armed individuals approached and opened fire on the parked vehicle. Tragically, the driver was fatally shot, while one of the passengers sustained an injury to the lower body and the other escaped unharmed. EMS personnel declared the driver deceased at the scene while the two surviving victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Police are actively investigating a case of murder and two cases of attempted murder in connection with this incident. While the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, the police cannot rule out taxi-related violence.
The South African Police Service urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
