Police members deployed to fight the scourge of gang violence in the Cape Flats, detained two suspects when they were found in possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents.
Bishop Lavis police were busy with focussed patrols on Tuesday 26 March 2024, in Bonteheuwel. They entered a premises in Bramble Street, searched the occupants and in the process recovered a firearm. They detained a 29-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Ravensmead police were busy with patrols on Wednesday 27 March 2024, when they responded to information of an unidentified man roaming the streets in Uitsig. They noticed a man who fitted the description in Disa Road, searched him which resulted in the confiscation of a firearm with ammunition. They detained the adult man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bishop Lavis and Bellville Magistrate’s Courts on the mentioned charges.
