KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka steered the introduction of the cluster contractor programme today at Ntabasibahle Sports Field in Nquthu Local Municipality.
Nquthu Local Municipality is strategically located along the R68 corridor, which links Babanango, Vryheid, Dundee and Nkandla.
The contractor for the provision of the routine and safety maintenance on various roads will be implemented in the Nquthu Local Municipality and will cover maintenance activities such as Verge/Drain Cleaning, Betterment and Re-Gravelling, Blacktop Patching, road marking/road studs, road signs, guardrail repairs and concrete works.
The total project is estimated to cost approximately R47 million and is expected to create more than 150 local employment opportunities.
MEC Hlomuka was joined by special advisor for President Cyril Ramaphosa, Jomo Sibiya, uMzinyathi Executive Committee member, Cllr. R.N Ngubane, Nquthu Local Municipality chief whip, Cllr. R. Motloung and Local House of Traditional Leadership, Induna uXulu and local councillors.
MEC Hlomuka then unveiled the contractor and engaged the community of Ward 01 at Ntabasibahle Sports Field, Nquthu Local Municipality.
