Hikers, climbers, and nature lovers participated in the 2024 Table Mountain clean-up

It’s not a joke; we really did help rescue a mountain. Well done to the hikers, climbers, and nature lovers who participated in the 2024 Table Mountain clean-up!

On Sunday, 14 April, 46 volunteers, including MSAR and MCSA members, removed 168.77 kg of rubbish from the upper ledges of the mountain! The group was divided into three teams, based on their mountaineering experience, to collect litter and carry it up to the top of the mountain. Hikers went down Fountain Ravine and scoured the bottom of the cliffs, behind behind boulders and plants. Scramblers cleared the area at the top of cliffs to the edges, while climbers descended on ropes to clean inaccessible areas and ledges (e.g. upper Africa ledge and Staircase ledge as well as down several gullies)

A big thanks for the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Station for donating lift passes, lunch packs for all and for removing the collected litter.

Another big shout-out to CityRock, which sent some staff and donated more than a dozen lucky prizes.

Megan and Michelle, you are stars for championing our passion for volunteering in the mountains and getting together a fantastic group of people from all walks of life (notably almost half females)!

Let’s keep Table Mountain clean!
