The joint multi-disciplinary team of Operation Vala Umgodi conducted intelligence driven operations in Port Nolloth on Saturday, 20 April 2024.
The members received intelligence driven information regarding illicit mining activities and other related crimes taking place at identified areas in Port Nolloth.
The members operationalised the information that led to the arrest of 19 suspects.
A total of 10 Zimbabwean male suspects between the ages of 24 and 42 were arrested for illegal mining, six South African males aged between 19 and 33 and three Lesotho males, aged 27, 33 and 36 were arrested for illegal dealing in drugs.
Dagga, with an estimated street value of R75 000 and money suspected to be proceeds of crime, were confiscated.
Police also confiscated bags with possible diamond bearing gravel, generators, jack hammers, and other suspected mining equipment and tools used for illegal mining activities.
All arrested suspects are expected to appear in Court soon.
The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded the members for their continued efforts in the fight against illicit mining and related crimes in the Namakwa District.
