A police intelligence driven operation resulted in the apprehension of a 41-year-old suspect, the recovery of six suspected stolen motor vehicles as well as two unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Monday, 22 April 2024 in Devland, South of Johannesburg.
Gauteng Detective Tracking Team together with the Gauteng Traffic Police Saturation Unit, Insurance Crime Bureau, CAP specialised operations, Tracker Connect, Crime Prevention Wardens and Telesure Insurance Investigation Department operationalised information received about a man in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
It was further reported that the suspect is also involved in the smuggling of stolen motor vehicles to the neighbouring countries. The residential premises was searched and through investigation it was discovered that six suspected stolen motor vehicles, two firearms and ammunition, registration documents, false registration number plates, VIN labels and cut out stamped chassis and multiple cellphones were seized.
Investigation is continuing and the suspect will appear before the magistrate court soon.
