KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka today handed over the contractor for rehabilitation of main road P8/1 in ward 02, Richmond Local Municipality.
Main road P8/1 starts from kilometer 0.000 to kilometer 14.300 and comprises a black top surface. The road traverses through wards 01, 02, 06 and 07 under Richmond Local Municipality.
The rehabilitation of main road P8/1 entails the repair of base and surface defects and the surfacing of the entire road using asphalt at an estimated total project cost of R116 million.
More than 55 employment opportunities will be created with emerging local contractors set to also benefit from the project.
MEC Hlomuka then engaged the local community at Slahla Sports Field where he was joined by the Richmond Local Municipality mayor and deputy mayor, Cllr. M. Ngcongo and Cllr. B. Mbanjwa, Local House of Traditional Leardership,
Inkosi uDlamini, local ward councillors and senior officials.
