The arrest of suspects in possession unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition is high on the priority list for members of the South African Police Service.
Caledon police responded to information about a business robbery on Thursday 17 May 2024, which occurred in Botrivier. Upon their arrival at the crime scene, they followed up on the information at their disposal. When they entered Zabalaza Street, they saw the motor vehicle mentioned in the statement and entered the premises. The members recovered two firearms with ammunition that resulted in the arrest of three males on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, and business robbery.
In an unrelated intervention, Malmesbury police followed up on information about an unknown male in possession of a firearm at a local business premises. The members operationalised the information entered the premises in Edward Street in Chatsworth where they found a man who fitted the description, searched him and confiscated a revolver with ammunition. They arrested a 22-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Caledon and Malmesbury Magistrate courts on the mentioned charges.
