KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka today launched the contractor for the upgrade of District Road D77 in Ward 13, Umvoti Local Municipality.
District Road D77 is an unpaved road located in the Ntembisweni Area (Wards 13 & 3) of the Umvoti Local Municipality.
The road traverses through a densely settled area providing access to schools, the Ntembisweni Clinic, pension pay points and community halls.
The project entails the upgrading of 5 kilometres from gravel to blacktop standards.
The total cost of this project is estimated to be R157 million. More than 80 job opportunities are expected to created from this project with local emerging contractors set to benefit more than R47 million.
MEC Hlomuka was joined by the Umvoti Local Municipality deputy mayor, Cllr. R. Ngubane, Local House of Traditional Leadership izinduna, district and local councillors, stakeholders and senior officials.
MEC Hlomuka will then proceed to Umsinga, where he will handover another contractor.
