Following sporadic shooting incidents in Heinz Park on Monday, 27 May 2024, members of the Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in the area to restore calm and to maintain law and order through high-density patrols and targeted crime combatting operations.
The members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene, community members alerted them on the whereabouts of the alleged suspects who fled the scene.
The information led the members to a premises in Daffodil Street where they arrested an 18-year-old male who was found in possession of a firearm with ammunition.
Furthermore, the members searched another premises in Daffodil Street and arrested a 17-year-old male when he was caught in possession of a firearm.
A 20-year-old man was also arrested by the same members when they searched another premises in Daffodil Street and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition.
The suspects face charges for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and are due to make their court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates’ court once they have been charged.
