Police swiftly arrest business robbers in Moletlane

Police responded to information about business robbery that took place on Wednesday, 05 June 2024, in Moletlane policing precinct outside Lebowakgomo, and swiftly arrested two suspects aged 41 and 61.

The incident took place at Rakgoatha village, where armed suspects forcibly entered a business establishment and made off with valuable items that included cash, driving in a Toyota Hilux.

Acting on immediate intelligence and with swift coordination, SAPS Moletlane and Lebowakgomo members were able to track down and arrest two suspects shortly after the robbery, following a speed vehicle chase.

The two suspects were arrested at different locations in Lebowakgomo policing area. The driver was cornered inside the vehicle, while the other suspect was found hiding at his place of residence.

During the arrest, the police recovered registration number plates, stolen items such as cash and cellphones robbed from the victims. Additionally, the firearm used during the robbery and 36 live rounds of ammunition were seized.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the officers for the swift apprehension of the suspects following the commission of the robbery.

“This arrest highlights the dedication and effectiveness of the police service in combating crime and ensuring the safety of our communities,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The suspects will appear before Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 07 June 2024 to face charges including possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen properties. The duo will still appear before court on a charge of business robbery.
