JMPD Officers arrested a suspect in Eldorado Park for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) commends officers from the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) for their vigilance and swift action that led to the arrest of a suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Eldorado Park on Sunday, 23 June 2024.

While on patrol in Eldorado Park, officers were approached by a member of the community who provided information regarding a person suspected of possessing an unlicensed firearm. The information also alleged the suspect’s affiliation with a gang.

The officers acted on the information and proceeded to verify the address provided. Upon confirming the location, they obtained assistance from additional JMPD members and returned to the address.

Upon arrival, the officers identified a male individual matching the description provided. This individual initially
claimed the firearm in his possession was a blank gun. However, he offered to lead the officers to where he kept the weapon, and a further inspection revealed a genuine firearm. A Star 0.22 Long firearm and eight live rounds of ammunition were recovered.

The suspect was placed under arrest and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS. He is facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The JMPD applauds the alertness and courage of the community member who provided valuable information, leading to the successful apprehension of a potentially dangerous individual.
