A 22-year-old suspect arrested for the brutal killing of a one-year-old toddler

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the brutal killing of a one-year-old toddler allegedly by a 22-year-old male suspect. The suspect allegedly strangled the toddler at Zuma View Bela Bela in the Waterberg district on Sunday, 30 June 2024, at about 13:00.

According to reports, the toddler’s mother was outside the room, while the toddler was inside asleep when the suspect (nephew) entered the room, found the child asleep, and strangled him. The grandfather of the toddler was called for help, and he pushed the suspect away. The child was taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention but was later pronounced dead.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, unequivocally condemned the incident of murder and urged the parents to ensure that their children are protected at all times.

The suspect will appear before Bela Bela Magistrate’s court on charges of murder.

Police investigations are ongoing.
