A 30-year-old male suspect to appear in Seshego magistrate court following a murder of his girlfriend

The police in Seshego under Capricorn District have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for the murder of a 31 year-old woman believed to be his girlfriend at her residence in Lithuli Park residential area on Thursday 04 July 2024 at about 09:00.

Police reports at this stage revealed that the mother of the victim was at home together with her daughter and the suspect. Suddenly the suspect took the motor vehicle of his girlfriend’s mother and drove to a Tuckshop to buy cigarettes.

The deceased informed her mother, who called the suspect with a cellphone, and told him to bring back her motor vehicle and also hand over the keys. A 30-year-old drove back to the residence and complied as instructed.

Afterward, the couple went outside the house, and suddenly, a 31-year-old girlfriend came back running and entered the house and closed the door. The suspect kicked it open while in possession of a knife in his hand and started to stab his girlfriend multiple times on the upper body, and she fell down, bleeding profusely.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital, and she was certified dead upon her arrival at the facility.

Following the incident, the suspect attempted to flee the scene, but he was cornered and assaulted by the members of the community. Police rushed to the scene and found the suspect with open wounds, and he was also transported to the hospital for medical treatment under police guard.

The suspect was later discharged from the medical facility and is currently in police custody.

He is expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate court on Monday, 08 July 2024.

Police investigations are continuing.
