SAPS Rapid Rail Unit arrests three suspects for dealing in drugs

Efforts by members attached to the Rapid Rail Unit in the fight against the illegal distribution of drugs in our communities and to put the offenders of the law behind bars, yielded positive results when they confiscated a large amount of drugs.

On Thursday, 11 July 2024 at 21:45, members attached to SAPS Rapid Rail Unit conducted patrols in the Maitland area when they were stopped by a member of the public who informed them of suspicious dealings being conducted at a premises in Norfolk Street, Maitland. It was alleged that a VW Polo was dropping off suspicious packages at the identified house on a regular basis. The members immediately operationalised the information and approached the house in question and conducted a search. During the search police discovered a huge consignment of drugs consisting pink and white ecstasy tablets, Boss mandrax tablets and five transparent bags containing presumed cocaine with an estimated street value of R426 000.

Three foreign nationals, one aged 26 and the other two 36, were arrested for dealing in drugs. They are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on Monday, 2024-07-15 on the mentioned charges

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile appreciated the efforts by the community who shared valuable information that led to the recovery of these drugs and to bring the perpetrators thereof to book.
