Son stabs father to death and attempted to commit suicide in his father’s house at Kamhlushwa outside Malelane

A 24-year-old suspect is expected to appear before Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court today for murder.

It is alleged that the suspect stabbed and killed his 62-year-old father in his father’s house at Kamhlushwa outside Malelane on Sunday 14 July 2024, at about 17:00. Both the victim and the suspect were staying together in the same house.

Preliminary investigation indicates that both the victim and the suspect had an argument earlier during the day. The misunderstanding was resolved amicable by both parties.

Later, when the victim came back from church, the suspect called him inside the house.

It is during this time that the suspect allegedly took a knife and stabbed his father multiple times.

The victim tried to escape the attack but fell down a few steps from the house.

The suspect then ran out of the house. People who saw the bleeding father raised an alarm, and the community members managed to apprehend the suspect and summoned the police.

It is alleged that the suspect also sustained some stab wounds after he allegedly stabbed himself several times, too.

The victim was certified dead by medical practitioners on the scene.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned the gruesome murder. Major General Mkhwanazi further urged victims of domestic violence to urgently report to the police before the unexpected happens. “We commend the community of Kamhlushwa for not taking the law into their own hands,” concluded the General.
