Intelligence-driven operation leads to the removal of huge amounts of drugs from the streets

Valuable information provided by Crime Intelligence operators led to the discovery and subsequent removal of Tik and mandrax from the streets in the Kakamas, Augrabies and Pofadder areas.

On 19 July 2024, information was received of possible drug dealing activities on the N14 road between Kakamas and Pofadder.

It was reported that drug dealers were allegedly hiding their drugs in the veld area between Kakamas and Pofadder.

The information was relayed to Kakamas police who operationalised the information and executed a search in the mentioned areas on the same day.

Their search led them to a veld area between Alheit and Marchand where the police discovered 1585 mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R185 850-00.

In another veld area between Alheit and Pofadder, the police also discovered tik to the value of R174 000-00.

The total value of the mandrax and tik amounts to R359 850 00. No arrests were effected and an enquiry was registered for further investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola was elated about the amount of drugs removed from the streets. This is proof that the police will robustly and vigorously fight to remove drugs from our communities and squeeze the space for drug dealers to operate.
