Limpopo Provincial Commissioner lauds joint efforts after swift arrest of house robbery suspect in Gauteng

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has praised the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies following the swift arrest of a 33-year-old suspect involved in house robbery that occurred on Wednesday night, 24 July 2024, in Modimolle policing precinct.

The suspect was arrested at Olievenhoutbosch in Gauteng within a few hours while driving the robbed motor vehicle, during a coordinated operation involving the SAPS members from Limpopo and Gauteng, with assistance from the Tracking Company.

This operation was initiated after two suspects committed house robbery in Phagameng, Extension 6. The complainant reportedly heard a knock on the door at about 20:00, and when he opened, two unknown men forced themselves into the house. They informed him that they had a message for him and started assaulting him with a firearm on his head until he lost consciousness. The suspects took the car keys and cellphones and further opened a gas bottle, leaving it next to the victim, who was still unconscious.

They locked the door and left without realizing that the victim’s partner was hiding in one of the rooms.

After the suspects drove off with the victim’s vehicle, the female managed to call the police and medical emergency services.

The Provincial Commissioner commended the dedication and swift action of the teams involved. “This achievement is a testament to the power of joint operations and the relentless commitment of our officers and partners to ensure the safety and security of our citizens. We will continue to work tirelessly to bring all perpetrators of crime to justice,” she said.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in Gauteng on Friday, 26 July 2024, on a charge of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle. He will soon appear in Modimolle on a charge of house robbery.

Members of the public who can assist with any further information related to the incident or the whereabouts of the remaining suspect, are urged to contact Detective Constable Jan Mashavhakule of SAPS Modimolle on 063 823 9922 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or provide tip-offs via the MySAPS App.
